For the first time, Liberty 4th and 5th grade boys and girls participated in the annual Irma de la Vega Basketball Tournament held at Douglas High School, reports the Douglas Dispatch.

The Douglas Dispatch featured students and staff at Liberty Traditional in Douglas, as they celebrated their 100th day of school on January 19.

The students and staff at Liberty Traditional were recently featured in the Douglas Dispatch for the Pennies for Patients fundraiser, benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in their search for a cure for blood cancers.

The community’s ongoing partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA) got off to a good start this year when Liberty’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser brought in nearly $700 for the AHA. “We are training our children to think of others first,” Liberty’s Event Coordinator, Suzanne Stokes, told the Douglas Dispatch.

Students and staff at Liberty Traditional are helping children in need through the school’s 3rd annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser. Principal Mealy spoke with the Douglas Dispatch about all the ways students are participating in this event for a worthy cause.

Fenner’s Louisiana Battery visited Liberty Traditional to educate students about the Civil War era. Douglas Dispatch reporter Aaliyah Montoya attended the event and interviewed Liberty Traditional’s Suzanne Stokes about how the history demonstrations give the children valuable insight to the Civil War.

Principal Edward Mealy spoke with the Douglas Dispatch about the school’s fundraising efforts to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through their Pennies for Patients program. Students were able to raise an amazing $1,101.09 for the cause.

The new AzMERIT test brought both new opportunities and anxieties to Liberty Traditional Saddleback Douglas. To help alleviate apprehension, the team at Liberty Traditional organized a pep rally to help students get excited and to build their confidence before the exams.

Aaliyah Montoya of the Douglas Dispatch attended the ribbon cutting for Liberty Traditional’s new computer and language lab. Principal Mealy spoke about how the new lab will help the school’s evolving English Immersion classes, along with helping the students be more immersed in technology since the state tests will be more computer based. During the ribbon cutting Mario De La Cruz of Arizona Desert and Design was also honored for his donation of plants and trees for the school’s yard.
