As you are probably aware, there are Arizona teachers supporting the Red for Ed teacher walkout. Despite the work stoppage in some areas, please be assured that we will be open on Thursday, April 26th and Friday, April 27th. As you may be aware, Arizona teachers are considering potential action to support the Red for Ed movement. Parents should be assured that we will do everything we can to provide you with as much information as is currently possible and, first and foremost, plans will be developed with student well-being and safety as our continued top priority!
April brings sunshine, spring flowers, and a month dedicated to poetry. National Poetry Month takes place every April to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry.
Join us Friday, April 20th, from 6-8 p.m., for our Daddy-Daughter Sock Hop. The dance will be held at First Baptist Church, 700 East 10th Street. Parents will be receiving an RSVP which they’ll need to return if they’re planning on attending. Remember, space is limited. Tickets to this exciting pop culture fad are $25 per couple and $5 for each additional daughter. Tickets will be available in early April. A 5×7-inch picture will also be available for $5!
Students and parents can check out Douglas High School’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) Showcase on April 12, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Besides regular high school classes, students can choose from over 19 different technical programs, from Bioscience and Culinary Arts to Information Technology and Engineering. It’s truly an inspired opportunity to see all that Douglas High School’s CTE program has to offer.
School will be closed Friday, March 30, and Monday, April 2 for Spring Recess. Parents, be sure you plan accordingly. We hope everyone has a great four-day weekend, and we’ll see you on April 3!
Come to our Getting Ready for High School event tonight, from 6-7 p.m., in the Liberty Douglas Library. As 8th graders prepare to enter high school, we’ll discuss the steps they’ll need to take for a successful transition, parents can complete all the necessary registration forms, and students and parents can get all their questions answered.
There’s a new health issue for parents to be aware of. Across the country, middle schools and high schools have seen an increase in disciplinary referrals due to e-cigarettes, or vaping.
March is National Women’s History Month, and 2018’s theme honors women who fight all forms of discrimination against women. Women’s History Month first began as a single day, which later led to a week, and now we dedicate the whole month of March to honoring women’s achievements in history. February is full of holidays with Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents’ Day. The whole month of February is also a time to celebrate and remember the great accomplishments and impact of notable African American figures in history. Parents, guardians, students and siblings are invited to Family Literacy Night’s World Tour. Every traveler receives a passport that will be stamped after a visit to each country, so don’t miss the trip!
